Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate!

What do I write about first? There are SO many topics! As I sat here hot and thirsty, I knew it had to be WATER. We know we need to stay hydrated but why or how much is enough?

How much depends on your weight, size, where you live, and activity level. Try to drink a minimum of 1/2oz per pound you weigh up to 1oz per pound. With the heat that we’re experiencing in NE this summer, the more water you can drink, the better.

Why? The human body is at least 50% water (depending on age, gender, activity level, and whether you have lean or fatty tissue). But most importantly is that 70% of your immune system is in your GUT and WATER helps keep your gut health in balance. Not only will water support energy, flush toxins, improve hair and skin, promote weight loss, give you energy, aid sleep and prevent cramping (yes, it does all that!), water helps support the digestion of soluble fiber. And that’s the key to why! Soluble fiber draws water into our guts which is CRUCIAL to keeping the microbes in our guts healthy and happy!

I start each day with the juice of 1/2 - 1 lemon in 18oz of warm water. Lemon balances your gut bacteria and acts as a GI cleanser as well as being high in VitC, phytonutrients and pectin!

Sometime during the morning/early afternoon- either alone or in my smoothie, I add prebiotic fiber to at least 8oz water. There isn’t one brand or type of fiber that’s best- as long as it’s CLEAN, it’s good. I switch back and forth between Organic India or Thrive market psyllium husk, Hyperbiotics powder or Gundry’s Prebiothrive. It’s best to switch them up so that you’re always keeping your gut guessing!!

Throughout the day, I drink a minimum of 40+ ounces and try to drink 60+. Some days I add an electrolyte supplement to some of the water, depending on heat and activity level. Mix it up and play around with which one- just keep it clean. I use Ultima replenisher (the orange tastes like tang but made with organic stevia leaf) or Nuun tablets. Some people tell me about bottled water with electrolytes already added. I’m sure that they are good but I like to add my own ingredients so that I know exactly what I’m getting.
