Wellness is not by chance-it is by choice!
Many years ago, I read this quote by one of my favorite Greeks, Aristotle.
"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."
Over the years, I've used this quote numerous times, inserting my own context and words. Not until I began my quest for a healthy lifestyle for myself and others did I refer to his wisdom with such frequency. When I think of nutrition, wellness and healthy lifestyles, I realize how poignant the essence of Aristotle's philosophy is in this quote.
We are what we repeatedly do. Why? Because repetition is easy, especially when it comes to food choices! Who has the time to think about how or what we eat? It's enough trouble to go shopping with a list of usual foods, let alone a list of unusual foods. It's easier to make the same old meals instead of trying new recipes. It's easier to follow established guidelines even when you know they are based on flawed science.
Making changes takes effort and commitment but once you begin to reap the benefits of choosing a healthy lifestyle, repeating the changes becomes easier and easier. You will want to continue making changes because you will feel better.
Wellness, then, is not by chance but a habit. The more you practice any action, the more permnament that action becomes. When you habitualize healthy choices that are right for you, you are rewarded with the added benefits of glowing skin, more energy, less brain fog, confidence and just plain feeling fabulous!
It is a matter of choice. Seven years ago, I decided to make clean, healthy living my lifestyle choice. It hasn't always been easy but it definitely continued to get easier as those choices became habit.
